John R. Packard Named Head of Brooks School

On November 6, 2007, the Board of Trustees announced their decision to name John R. Packard the fourth head of Brooks School. Board President William N. Booth '67 delivered the news to students, faculty and staff in a statement that was met with a standing ovation.

Announcement of Mr. Packard's Appointment


Mr. Packard is currently dean of the faculty at Brooks School. He is responsible for all aspects of faculty life, including recruitment, hiring, and evaluation. Previously at the school, he was assistant director of admission from 1998 to 2000 and assistant dean of students from 1994 to 1998. He has taught history for 15 years, earning the Reverend George F. Vought Prize for special contributions to the school and notable professional growth in 1994. Mr. Packard has served as dorm master for 15 years and has coached soccer, ice hockey, baseball and lacrosse. He is a graduate of Franklin and Marshall College, where he captained the soccer team, and he holds an M.A.L.S from Wesleyan University. Mr. Packard and his wife, Kimberly O'Neill Packard '87, have two children.
